Preparing for the Future: IPAC, Science & Policy, & Well-being

This course introduces essential principles for safe and effective healthcare delivery through three focused modules. Learners will explore Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) fundamentals, including hand hygiene and proper use of personal protective equipment, gaining skills to apply IPAC practices with clients and communicate their importance. Our second module provides an evolving nature of science and equips participants to handle client and family concerns about changing care practices, emphasizing how to identify credible information sources and collaborate effectively. Lastly, learners will journey with a personal support worker to reflect on strategies for maintaining physical, mental, and social well-being, recognizing when to seek professional support for themselves or colleagues.

Infection Prevention and Control

This introductory module provides an overview of Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC).

Through a case, you will be introduced to key elements of IPAC in real-world practice including:

• Good hand hygiene practice
• Donning and doffing of personal protective equipment
  

By the end of this module, learners will be able to:

1. Apply IPAC practices with clients, including those with complex care needs
2. Communicate the importance of IPAC
3. Identify strategies to enable your client to practice IPAC
   

Understanding Health Policy and Health Science

This introductory module provides an overview of the evolving nature of science, and how to respond to client or family member concerns about changes in care practices. Through a case and short activities, you will navigate challenging situations while practicing how to identify credible sources of information and effectively communicate with a client and their family members. The module concludes with a short quiz to review and summarize the ideas presented in the module. By the end of this module, learners will be able to:

• Identify credible sources of information
• Respond to questions about the changing nature of science
• Collaborate effectively with clients, their family members, and the healthcare team to share information and make decisions
  

Professional Well-being

In this module, you will journey with Amaya, a personal support worker, as she encounters various challenges to her physical, mental, and social health. As you proceed through the module, think about how you would handle the situations. Also, consider how you might support Amaya or a colleague that is facing similar challenges.
